This coin has been graded by the Numismatic Guarantee Corporation (NGC) and has received the grade of PF-62 with the attribute of CAMEO.

This was the first year of sovereign to feature the Jubilee Head Portrait designed by Joseph Edgar Boehm to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.

This proof sovereign comes from an 11 coin set issued by The Royal Mint, there were only 797 of these sets minted. This sovereign would have come from one of these original sets.

What does CAMEO mean?

This coin has been graded professionally by the Numismatic Guarantee Corporation (NGC) and has received the attribute of CAMEO. For a coin to have the attribute CAMEO it must have both fields are deeply mirrored and the devices are frosted for moderate contrast on both sides of the coins. Obverse

The jubilee head obverse was introduced to mark the fiftieth year of Victoria's reign. It was designed by the medalist and sculptor, Joseph Edgar Boehm. The coin features the legend:

Reverse

The reverse was designed by Benedetto Pistrucci. It features the iconic depiction of St. George, on horseback, killing a dragon. The date 1887 appears in the exergue, and the initials B.P. (for Benedetto Pistrucci) appears to the right.
