Born in November 1913, Benjamin Britten wrote around 75 hours of music, a remarkable and wide range of work ranging across many different moods and genres. His talents as a conductor and pianist were also well recognised. Even after his death which was in 1976 his reputation as one of the greatest musicans has lived on.

Gold proof fifty pences are often issued with low mintages which makes them highly desireable to coin collectors. The fifty pence is British legal tender and is exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
