This is the five ounce version of the popular silver lunar coin from the Perth Mint. This coin is sold as an investment product.
The Australian Year of the Rooster coins were released on 8th September, 2016and we received our allocation on 20th September.
The Perth Mint began their lunar series in 1999 and this coin is part of the second cycle of the coins. The Year of the Rooster officially begins on 28th January, 2017. It will be the Chinese year 4715. Those born during the Year of the Rooster are thought to be honest, observant, hardworking and confident. The rooster is the 10th of 12 animals in the Chinese lunar calendar.
There is no set mintage figure on the five ounce coins.
The coin shows the fourth coinage portrait of Elizabeth II on the obverse. It was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.
Tom Baughan designed the coin's reverse. It shows a rooster, hen and three chicks. The Perth Mint 'P' mintmark and the Chinese character for Rooster can also be seen.
