The 1864 gold sovereign coin, is a fairly common date. There are no die numbers on the obverse known for this year. However, there are die numbers on the reverse. The die number is will be situated towards the bottom of the shield, above the rose, shamrock and thistle.
The obverse of the sovereign shows the young portrait design of Victoria. The initial WW for engraver William Wyons are incuse, without stops.
The reverse of the sovereign shows Jean Baptiste Merlen shield design.
