The obverse features the fourth of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank Broadley, FRBS, FSNAD, whose initials IRB appear under the head, with the inscription: ELIZABETH II D G REG FID DEF TWO POUNDS 2012

Designed by Jonathan Olliffe, the reverse features an engraving of two hands meeting, handing over the Olympic relay baton over, with a sweeping flag of the United Kingdom twisting into the Brazilian flag. The legend (inscription) reads: LONDON 2012 RIO 2016.
