SynopsisThis week we're talking to our Operations Manager, Rochelle! She's been with the company for over 11 years so knows (almost) as much as Lawrence.
What's your hometown?
Blackpool and I am proud of it. We are so lucky to have the sea, a water park and a theme park as well as the best park in England, Stanley Park.
What do you do at Chards?
I am the Operations Manager. I oversee the customer service team for our bullion, numismatic and jewellery products and help co-ordinate all aspects of the business.
What's the best thing about working at Chards?
The knowledge that you acquire, and after 11 years I have learnt and seen so much. The coronavirus pandemic has been an eye opener. It’s quite good to have an insight to people’s reaction to politics and the economy. After the EU referendum we were extremely busy buying from customers who no longer wanted their money in gold. During the 2008-2010 recession we saw a lot of people invest in gold.
What's your favourite coin?
Fiji Pacific Gold Sovereign and the Gothic Crown, especially one with natural toning.
What are you missing most during lockdown?
Missing the children being at school. It’s been quite difficult balancing working and parenting. My two worlds have collided. However, there have been silver linings. I have managed to video call all my friends at the same time without having to wait months for us all to be free.
One thing you didn’t know about the coin / bullion industry before working at Chards?
The word numismatist! I’m waiting for it to come up during a lockdown quiz.
What would you be doing if you didn’t work at Chards?
When I was in primary school, I wanted to be a journalist. I enjoyed HR and finance at university but when I left I just wanted a job where I didn’t have to work every evening and weekend after having to do this throughout school, sixth form and university, (my most memorable part time job was bathing and drying dogs at a dog groomers). I have been quite fortunate to land at job at Chards where I've been able to do HR, finance, blog writing and more.
Top 3 things to make lockdown pass?
1/ Outlander - It’s a gripping TV series with a touch of history.
2/ Philip Pullman – His Dark Material Series.
3/ Star Wars & The Mandalorian - Although the storyline has to be explained to me by my 10 year old.
Do you have any life advice?
Life’s too short to pair socks.
Tell us an unpopular opinion.
Silver coins look nice with milk spots. Very controversial!
Where's the one place you want to visit once the lockdown has ended?
My mum’s back garden. It’s a suntrap.
Do you have any interesting hobbies?
I love to play netball but just wish I was 3 inches taller.
What are you looking forward to doing after lockdown?
Having a BBQ with my extended family.
