Which Is The Best Value Silver Coin?

The absolutely best value silver coin on the UK market is sold at Chard!

We introduced the UK’s Cheapest Silver Coin in February. After buying over close to one metric tonne of Royal Mint Lunar silver coins, our Director, Lawrence Chard, decided to slash the premiums and offer the one ounce silver coin at the lowest price on the market. Not only are these the standard one ounce silver coins but they have the added value of being newly minted and exempt from Capital Gains Tax.

Britannia v UK's Cheapest Silver Coin – Which Is the Best Buy?

Well, it depends whether you want to save money. Even with our low premiums, our lowest priced Britannia is more expensive than Chard's UK's Cheapest Silver Coin.

Investment Silver For UK Residents

If you are resident in the UK, you may want to consider buying investment silver that is exempt from Capital Gains Tax (CGT). Capital Gains Tax is the tax that you will pay to HMRC if the profit on the assets that you sell in a tax year exceed £11,700*. When you buy CGT free silver, you will not be liable for any tax on the sale of these coins.

Which Silver Coins Are CGT Exempt?

All coins that are British legal tender are exempt from CGT.

One ounce silver coins include:

Britannia Introduced in 1997, the Britannia was the Royal Mint's first one ounce silver coin issued to meet the demand for a common weight coin sold as bullion.

British Lunar Introduced in 2014, the Royal Mint's Lunar series, The Shēngxiào Collection. Designed by Wuon-GeanHo, a different design is released each year to celebrate the Chinese Lunar calendar.

Queen’s Beast Series This ten coin series is based on the Queen's Beasts heraldic statues which were created by sculptor James Woodford for Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953. Each statue represented an element of the Queen's heritage. The Queen's Beast coin collection is designed by Royal Mint engraver, Jody Clark. These silver coins each weigh two ounces and whilst sold at a fairly low premium, they are aimed at the collector first, the investor second.

All of these coins are issued as uncirculated bullion coins which are sold at a low premium above the intrinsic metal value.

Are Other 1 oz Silver Coins Cheaper?

Mints around the world issue their own one ounce silver coins aimed at investors looking to buy low priced silver bullion. These include the American EagleCanadian MapleAustrian Philharmonic and Australian Kangaroo. Other 1 oz silver coins such as the PandaKookaburra and Koala are available but they tend to be sold at a slightly higher premium.

How Many Coins Should I Buy?

Look at the quantity breaks and take advantage of the lower prices. The more you buy, the cheaper the price per coin!
