This 1914 George V gold sovereign coin was struck at The Royal Mint in London. This 22 carat gold British coin bears the famous St George and Dragon reverse by Benedetto Pistrucci.
Photographs shown may not be the actual coin and may differ in terms of grade, die numbers, design flaws and other minor details.
In 1914, sovereigns were issued at The Royal Mint, London, the Australian branch mints in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney and also Ottawa in Canada.
11,501,117 George V London mint gold sovereigns were issued for circulation but many of them were handed back to the government when a call went out for people to exchange their gold coins for treasury notes to help fund the war effort of the First World War.
You can tell that a George V sovereign is minted in London by the omittance of a letter above the date on the reverse of the coin. Coins minted in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and Canada show the first letter of the mint where the coin was issued in the ground below the dragon.
