Obverse

The obverse of the coin features the Old Head portrait of Queen Victoria. This is also known as the veiled or widow head. This was designed by Thomas Brock and appeared on the coins from 1893 until 1901.

Reverse

The engraving of St George slaying the dragon can be found on the reverse. This was designed by Benedetto Pistrucci in 1817. The date and the engraver's initials B.P. are in exergue. The mint mark S above the date in the ground shows that the coin was struck at the Sydney mint in Australia.
