Henry VII Gold Angel Coin VF - Cross Crosslet Mintmark

Gold angel of Henry VII graded as VF (very fine) with some weaknesses in strike in a few areas. 

Thought to be Spink Reference number 2186 which would mean it was date 1504 - 1505. 

Mint mark of cross crosslet appear on both sides and in the shaft of the spear.

Whilst the reign of Henry VII didnt bring about significant change for coinage, aside from mintmarks, the obverse desgin of Saint Micheal spearing a dragon, seeing the biblical figure adorn armour in keeping with the style of the Renaissance period.

Legend starting from the top right reads:

HENRIC DI GRA REX AnGLIE Z FRA

Most have AnGL not AnGLIE like this one. Translated the legend reads "Henry by the Grace of God, King of England and France".

Saint Micheal slaying dragon with both feet clearly on the ground and hold a spear. Cross Crosslet spear shaft and St Micheals halo break through the inner beading. 

Mint mark Cross Crosslet to the right of Saint Micheal's head in the legend area. 

Reverse

The reverse design of the gold angel coin shows a crown at the centre of a ship amongst the waves, with a "h" to the left and a rose to the right of the cross as ships mast.

Orders over £60 - Fully Insured Delivery.

  • Within the UK and BFPO - Next day fully insured and tracked. Delivery starts from £6. 

Orders under £60

  • Within the UK and BFPO - Royal Mail 2nd Class. Your order will normally arrive within 2-3 working days. Delivery starts from £3.50.

Postal Insurance

  • Orders over £1500 we charge a fee in order to cover the increasing costs of insurance. For every £1500 we apply a £1 fee.
