Customer-Focused Administrator

We have been established for over 40 years and are leading coin and bullion dealers. We also specialise in diamond rings and gold jewellery. Due to the nature of our business, we thrive regardless of state of the economy.

It is important that we get the right person for this position as they will be a core worker, central to the efficiency of our business.

Job Description
Working in a lively and challenging environment, the ideal candidate will not only have excellent customer service skills, but will thrive on working with the public, over the telephone, via email and in person.

The duties will include opening mail, processing incoming orders, picking, packing and despatching orders, checking prices and availability, generating sales, providing customers with quotations, using excel, serving customers in the showroom. Attention to detail is important, as is care and accuracy, as we deal with high value goods.

Although this job description doesn't sound too exciting, we can assure you that no two days are the same. The work is extremely varied, and working within such a close team even the bad days are fun! We have customers all over the world, you could be quoting for £200,000 worth of gold bullion to an Australian customer one minute, and selling a diamond bracelet to the lady round the corner two minutes later - there really are no limits!

Person Specification
We expect our employees to have the ability to prioritise and manage a diverse workload with minimum supervision, whilst working under pressure in a high volume, high quality service culture.

Criteria
The following skills are essential:

  • 5 GCSE's grades A - C, including English and Maths
  • Fast learner
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Confident telephone manner
  • IT literate and keyboard competent
  • Ability to manage, organise and prioritise workloads
  • Good team player

The following skills are desirable:

  • Educated to further education level
  • Office experience
  • Additional languages

You don't need specific experience to be successful here, however you will need to fit the criteria above and be willing to try anything!

The right person will be motivated, enthusiastic, patient, flexible and adaptable and will enjoy working in a friendly and supportive working environment. Reliability is paramount, as is discretion.

Development
Self development and further education are encouraged and rewarded.
Out of our seven full time team members, four are educated to degree level and the other three are currently working towards NVQ 2 and 3 qualifications.
Our Office Manager started working for us as an administrator nearly five years ago and was promoted within two years.
Our Jewellery Manager has been employed by Chard since 1991 and started off as an Office Junior.
The rest of our team have been working here for between 1 - 6 years and we hope to have them with us for many more.

We would be prepared to create an individual job around an individual with the right skills and interests. Our current admin staff also design web pages, order stock, and contribute in many other ways depending on their skills, interests, and qualifications.

Interview
Interviews will be conducted at the address below with both the Office Manager and at least one Director. The interview will also include short tests in excel, numeracy, literacy, and IT.
